Let the denominator be y
Numerator=y-6
Fraction =(y-6)/y
Let 3 be added
Numerator=y-6+3=y-3
Fraction=(y-3)/y
(y-3)/y=2/3
3y-9=2y
3y-2y=9
y=9
Numerator=9-6=3
Fraction=3/9=1/3
