Figure shows the Free Body Diagram of the bob when it's at mean position.

We get,

\sf{\longrightarrow kl+\dfrac{mg}{2}=mg}

\sf{\longrightarrow kl=\dfrac{mg}{2}}

\sf{\longrightarrow\dfrac{m}{k}=\dfrac{2l}{g}}

Here,

  • \sf{kl} is the force developed in the string due to strain.
  • \sf{mg} is weight of bob.
  • \sf{\dfrac{mg}{2}} is upthrust on the bob. Given that upthrust is half the weight of the bob.

Then time period will be,

\sf{\longrightarrow T=2\pi\sqrt{\dfrac{m}{k}}}

\sf{\longrightarrow\underline{\underline{T=2\pi\sqrt{\dfrac{2l}{g}}}}}
