Given 2x - 1/2x = 4.

Now,

(1)

On squaring both sides, we get

(2x - 1/2x)^2 = (4)^2

4x^2 + 1/4x^2 - 2 * 2x * 1/2x = 16

4x^2 + 1/4x^2 - 2 = 16

4x^2 + 1/4x^2 = 16 + 2

4x^2 + 1/4x^2 = 18 .

(ii).

On cubing both sides, we get

(2x - 1/2x)^3 = (4)^3

8x^3 - 1/8x^3 - 3 * 2x * 1/2x(2x - 1/2x) = 64

8x^3 - 1/8x^3 - 3(4) = 64

8x^3 - 1/8x^3 - 12 = 64

8x^3 - 1/8x^3 = 64 + 12

8x^3 - 1/8x^3 = 76.

Hope this helps!
