and, Y = every wrong answer.

So that, X+Y = 100...............(1)

The student get 5 mark for every correct answer and for every incorrect answer 2 marks are deducted from the total score.

Given that his total score is 220

That means, 5X - 2Y = 220..............(2)

eq(1) × 2

2X + 2Y = 200...........eq(3)

From eq (2) and (3)...

5X+2X = 220 + 200

=> 7x = 420

=> x = 60
