Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that,

x^(5+a)² × x^(5-a)² = x⁴⁰ (∵ " ^ " this symbol means " to the power of " )

x^( 5+ a )² + ( 5 - a )² = x⁴⁰ ( ∵ Bases are equal, then powers should be add )

x^ [( 5 )² + a² + 2 ( 5 ) ( a ) + ( 5 )² + a² - 2 ( 5 ) ( a ) ] = x⁴⁰

x^ (25+ a² + 10a + 25 + a² - 10a ) = x⁴⁰

x^ (2a² + 50 ) = x⁴⁰

2a² + 50 = 40 (∵Bases are equal then powers should be equal )

2a² = 40 - 50

2a² = - 10

a² = - 10/2 ( ∵transposing )

a² = - 5

a = √ - 5 is the answer.
