\huge{\bold{\underline{\underline{....Answer....}}}}

\huge{\bold{\underline{Given:-}}}

  • Length of "AB" = 12 Km.
  • Length of "BC" = 8 Km.
  • Length of "CD" = 3 Km.
  • Length of "DE" = 11 Km.
  • Length of "AE" = 16Km.

\huge{\bold{\underline{Explanation:-}}}

The man starts at 8:00 am.

And reaches point "E" at 12:00pm.

So, Time taken by the man:-

T = 12:00 - 8:00

T = 4 hours.

\large{\boxed{ \tt T = 4 \: hours}}

\rule{300}{1.5}

Average speed = ?

Firstly finding the total distance travelled by the man.

\large{\bold{ \tt Distance = AB + BC + CD + DE + AE}}

Substituting the values,

\large{ \tt D = 12 + 8 + 3 + 11 + 16}

Now,

\large{ \tt D = 36 + 14}

\large{\boxed{ \tt D = 50 \: Km}}

As we know,

\large{\bold{ \tt Average \: Speed = \dfrac{Total \: Distance \: Travelled}{Total \: Time \: Taken}}}

Substituting the values,

\large{ \tt A.S = \dfrac{50}{4}}

\large{ \tt A.S = \dfrac{\cancel{50}}{\cancel{4}}}

It comes as,

\huge{\boxed{\boxed{ \tt Average\: Speed = 12.5 \: Km/hr}}}

\rule{300}{1.5}

\rule{300}{1.5}

Average velocity = ?.

Firstly finding the displacement of the man,

As From the definition of displacement,

Displacement:-

It is the shortest path between the initial and final positions of the body, and directed towards the final point.

So, here the shortest distance is "AE".

Therefore, Displacement is

\large{\bold{ \tt Displacement = AE}}

Now,

\large{\boxed{ \tt D = 16 \: Km}}

As we know,

\large{\bold{\tt Average \: Velocity = \dfrac{Displacement}{Total \: Time}}}

Substituting the values,

\large{ \tt A.V = \dfrac{16}{4}}

\large{ \tt A.V = \dfrac{\cancel{16}}{\cancel{4}}}

It comes as,

\huge{\boxed{\boxed{ \tt Average \:  velocity= 4 \: Km/hr}}}

\rule{300}{1.5}

So, the average speed of the man is 12.5 km/hr.

and, The average velocity of the man is 4 Km/hr.

Note:-

  • Remember average velocity is greater than or equal to Average speed.
  • It (Average velocity)cannot be greater than Average speed
