Solution :

3a - b = 9 ....(1) x 3

3a - a = 5 ....(2)

-3b + 9a = 27

3b - a = 5

¹ 8a = 32 ⁴

( 8x1=8 , 8x4=32 )

a = 4

On putting value of a in equation (2)

3b - 4 = 5

¹ 3b = 9 ³

( 3x1=3 , 3x4=9 )

b = 3.

Hence the values of a and b are a = 4 , b = 3.
