let cost of 1 eraser=p
and cost of 1 pencil =q
then according to question
15p+25q=185.............(1)
and
again
9p+xq=106...............(2)
then from (1)
p=(185-25q)/15
substituting in 2 the value of p
9(185-25q)15+qx=106
3(37-5q)+qx=106
111-15q+qx=106
15q-qx=5
q(15-x)=5
q=5/(15-x)
it is clear that x can not be 15
for x=15 q is undefined
answer is 15
thanks
