x =  \frac{ - b ±  \sqrt{b {}^{2} - 4ac } }{2a}

x =  \frac{3 ±  \sqrt{( - 3) {}^{2}  - 4(9)( - 2)} }{2 \times 9}

x = \frac{3 ±  \sqrt{9 + 72} }{18}

x =  \frac{3 ±  \sqrt{81} }{18}

x =  \frac{3 + 9}{18}  \:  \: and \:  \frac{3 - 9}{18}

x =  \frac{12}{18}  \: and \:  \frac{ - 6}{18}

x =  \frac{2}{3}  \: and \:  \frac{ - 1}{3}
