$a = 1 \\ b = - 2 \\ c = - 5$

$x = \frac{ - b± \sqrt{ {b}^{2} - 4ac} }{2a}$

$= \frac{ - ( - 2)± \sqrt{ { - 2}^{2} - 4(1) ( - 5) } }{2(1)}$

$= \frac{2± \sqrt{4 + 20} }{2}$

$x = + \sqrt{24} \: or \: x = - \sqrt{24}$
