x/a + y/b = 2 ......... (i)
ax - by = a^2 - b^2 ........... (ii)
x/a = 2 -y / b .
x = (2a - ay) / b
now substitute x in equation (ii) :
a ( 2a - ay / b ) - by = a^2 - b^2
2a^2 - a^2 y / b - by = a^2 - b^2
a^2 - a^2 y /b - by + b^2 = 0
a^2 + b^2 = a^2 y / b + by
a^2 + b^2 = ( a^2 y + b^2 y ) / b
b ( a^2 + b^2 ) = ( a^2 + b^2 ) y
therefore.....y = b .
and ,
x/a + y/b = 2...... (i)
x/a + b/b = 2
x/a = 2- 1
x = a .
hence , y = b and x = a.
