let us say the people who read both a and b = x

30 + 20 - x = 46

50 - x = 46

x = 50 - 46 = 4

3)# of people who read both a and b = 4

4)# of people who read exactly 1 paper =

# of people who read only a +  # of people who read only b

= 26 + 16 = 42
