Solved the given equation, the value of :

x = -12 and y = 9.33

To solve :

x + 3y = 16  and  2x + 3y = 4

Solution :

x + 3y = 16 -----> ( 1 )

2x + 3y = 4 -----> ( 2 )

To find the value of "x" :

Subtract the equation ( 1 ) and ( 2 ), we get

x + 3y - ( 2x + 3y ) = 16 - 4

x + 3y - 2x - 3y = 12

-x = 12

x = - 12

To find the value of "y" :

Substitute the value of "x" in the equation ( 1 ), we get

x + 3y = 16 -----> ( 1 )

-12 + 3y = 16

3y = 16 + 12

3y = 28

y = \frac{28}{3}

y = 9.33

Therefore, the value of x is -12 and y is 9.33.

x = -12 and $y=\frac{28}{3}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given data:

x + 3y = 16 ---------- (1)

2x + 3y = 4 -----------(2)

(1) ⇒ x + 3y = 16

⇒ x = 16 - 3y -----------(3)

Substitute (3) in (2), we get

⇒ 2(16 - 3y) + 3y = 4

⇒ 32 - 6y + 3y = 4

⇒ 32 - 3y = 4

⇒ 32 - 4 = 3y

⇒ 28 = 3y

y=\frac{28}{3}

Substitute y in (3), we get

x = 16 - 3(\frac{28}{3} )

x = 16 - 28

x = -12

Therefore x = -12, y=\frac{28}{3}
