 =  > x -  \frac{6}{3}  + 4 = 8 \\  =  > x -  \frac{ \cancel{6} \:  \: 2}{ \cancel{3}}  + 4 = 8 \\  =  > x - 2 + 4 = 8  \\  =  > x + 2 = 8 \\  =  > x = 8 - 2 \\  =  >  \boxed{6}

(x=18 is not possible.)
