 \frac{3x + 1}{ x + 1} + \frac{ x + 1}{3x + 1} = \frac{5}{2} \\ \frac{(3x + 1) {}^{2} + (x + 1) {}^{2} }{(x + 1)(3x + 1) } = \frac{5}{2} \\ \frac{9 {x}^{2} + 1 + 6x + x { + 1 + 2x}^{2} }{3x {}^{2} } = \frac{5}{2} \\ \frac{11x {}^{2} + 7x + 2 }{3x {}^{2} } = \frac{5}{2} \\ 22x {}^{2} + 14x + 4 = 15x {}^{2} \\ 7x {}^{2} + 14x + 4 = 0 \\
