- x² - 2x + 3 = 0

Multiply by -1 through:

x² + 2x - 3 = 0

Add 3 from both sides:

x² + 2x = 3

Add (b/2)² on both sides:

x² + 2x  + (2/2)² = 3 + (2/2)²

x² + 2x  + 1 = +3 + 1

x² + 2x  + 1 = -4

Form the perfect square:

(x + 1)² = 4

Square root both sides:

x + 1 = ±√4

x + 1 = ±2

x = 2 - 1 or x = -2 - 1

x = 1 or x = -3

Answer: x = 1 or x = -3
