Solution :
Given quadratic equation:
x - x² = -7/4
multiply each term by 4, we
get
=> 4x - 4x² = -7
=> 0 = 4x² - 4x - 7
=> 4x² - 4x - 7 = 0
Compare this with ax²+bx+c=0
we get
a = 4 , b = -4 , c = -7
Discreminant (D) = b²-4ac
= (-4)² - 4×4×(-7)
= 16 + 112
= 128
Now ,
Quadratic Formula :
x = [ (-b ± √D)/2a]
= [-(-4)±√128]/(2×4)
= ( 4 ± 4√7 )/8
= [4(1±√7)]/8
= ( 1±√7)/2
Therefore ,
x = ( 1+√7)/2 or ( 1- √7)/2
