Hey Mate!!

x - y = 1               .....(1)

2x + y = 8           .....(2)

Adding (1) and (2),

x - y + 2x + y = 1 + 8

→ 3x = 9

→ x = 9 ÷ 3 = 3        .....(3)

From (3) in (1),

3 - y = 1

→ y = 3 - 1 = 2

Answer:

  • x=3
  • y=2

________________________________

step by step explanation:

USING ELIMINATION METHOD

x-y=1 ....(1)

2x+y=8 ....(2)

add ....(1) and ....(2)

x-y=1 + 2x+y=8 (x+2x=3x, -y+y=0, 8+1=9)

=> 3x=9

=> x=9/3

=> x= 3

put x in ....(2)

2(3)+y=8

=> 6+y=8

=> y=8-6

=> y=2

hence, value of x is 3 and y is 2.
