Answer:

solutions for given equation x = 1, y=3

Step-by-step explanation:

Given equations    x + y =3  _(1)

                           2x+5y =12_ (2)

to solve equations the coefficients of any variable must be equal

2 × equation(1) ⇒   2x+2y=6 _(3)

1 × equation(2) ⇒   2x+5y =12 _(4)

equation(3) -equation(4) =  2x+2y -(2x+5y) =6-12

                                         =  2x+2y-2x-5y =-6

                                         =  2y -5y =-6

                                         = -3y =-6

                                          =  y=2

substitute y=2 in equation (1) ⇒  x +2 =3

                                                     x = 1

the solutions are x =1, y=2
