Weight of O2 required = 40gm

Weight of MgO formed = 100gm

Explanation:

Mg + 1/2O2 = MgO

Molecular weight of Mg = 24

so, number of moles of Mg = 60/24 = 2.5 mole

Since onle mle Mg react with 0.5 mole 0f O2 .

So, 2.5 moles of Mg react with 1.25 moles of O2

Weight of O2 required = 1.25×32 = 40gm

Weight of MgO formed = 2.5 × (24+16) = 2.5 × 40

= 100gm
