Calcium Carbonate is a basic substance. Whenever acidity occurs in the stomach, consumption of antacids containing calcium carbonate (which is a base) neutralises the effect of the acids. However the effect does not stay for much long as after some time, more HCl is produced in body, in order to neutralise it, more calcium chloride is required.

So it is a temporary remedy.

Calcium carbonate is a dietary supplement used when the amount of calcium taken in the diet is not enough. Calcium is needed by the body for healthy bones, muscles, nervous system, and heart. Calcium carbonate also is used as an antacid to relieve heartburn, acid indigestion, and upset stomach.

Hope it's helpful ☺️
