Dalai Lama
Dalai Lama is a Tibetian Spiritual leader who was born at a small village of Taktser Northwest Tibet in 1935. He was born not in a rich family. His parents were humble peasants whose main livelihood was agriculture. Dalai Lama had 4 brothers and two sisters. His economic conditions was not too good and thus, his education was informal. From the beginning he was a strong believer in religious tenets of Buddhism and was a steadfast follower of non-violence.
In his early life, he became the spiritual head of Tibetans. However, in 1950 he was expelled out of China and was made to take asylum in India. At that time, he made Dharamshala (a place in Himachal Pradesh) his exiled headquarters.
Dalai Lama also worked in the field of books and has written a numerous books on religion and spiritualism. Out of them the most notable work of him are "My Land and My People". He gives a personal account of life in his birthplace, Tibet. He also mentioned the sad events which totally disrupted the Tibetian way of life, in his book.
Currently, he has taken a decision to give up his political career and the right to be the leader of Tibetian to usher in a democratic process.
