- Archegonium is flask shaped with tubular neck and a swollen venter.
- Sexual reproduction is of oogamous type.

Some General features of Bryophyta are as follows-
• Bryophytes are the first land plant.
• They are also known as amphibians of plant Kingdom because in order to complete their life cycle water is needed.
• Bryophytes are not considered as the successful land plants because vascular tissue is absent and water is needed for fertilization.
• The process of water transport in bryophytes takes place with the help of parenchyma.
• Roots are absent in them.
• They generally grow in moist or shady regions.
• Fertilization takes place by zoidogamy which means that male gamate reaches the female gamate and fertilizers it.
• Sex organs are formed on gametophyte.
