Some General features of Bryophyta are as follows-

Bryophytes are the first land plant.

• They are also known as amphibians of plant Kingdom because in order to complete their life cycle water is needed.

• Bryophytes are not considered as the successful land plants because vascular tissue is absent and water is needed for fertilization.

• The process of water transport in bryophytes takes place with the help of parenchyma.

Roots are absent in them.

• They generally grow in moist or shady regions.

• Fertilization takes place by zoidogamy which means that male gamate reaches the female gamate and fertilizers it.

• Sex organs are formed on gametophyte.
