Some dalit groups from India have decided to participate in the UN conference against racism. There are different opinions in india about this issue. Do you think that its right for dalits to do so? Justify

(Disclaimer , what lies below is just my personal opinion, not intended to offend anybody)

No, I feel that it is not right to raise an issue such as caste discrimination at a conference on race discrimination as:-

* raising issue of caste discrimination at a conference on racism is not apt as , racism is a biological form of discrimination on the grounds of physical appearance, while caste discrimination is based on societal beliefs.

*caste issues are internal issues of India and raising such issues at an international event is unnecessary and uncalled for.

*UN conferences are supposed to be for major international issues and just for a national problem within India.

*the raising of issue at the conference is unnecessary as Indian government is already talking the issue of caste discrimination by empowering depressed classes.

* it is not right for the dalits to do so

because it is a conference against racism and racism is something about the biological diversity and castes is about the social divisions in the society.

* participating in a conference of racism in protest of caste is something that equats them both .

*which is totally wrong such a protest would end of people thinking that racism and caste divisions are equal but they are totally different..
