Among their many advantages, sea turtles contribute significantly to the maintenance of the food web balance and the productivity and health of the coral reef environment.
• Manatees and sea turtles serve as grazing animals, keeping the sea grass beds healthy by cutting the grass short. Sea grass beds have decreased during the last few decades. The decrease in sea turtle populations may be responsible for this reduction.
