If the displacement and the force applied to the object are in the same direction then the work done by the force is said to be positive.

If the force and displacement are in the opposite direction, then the work done by the force is said to be negative.

If the force and displacement are perpendicular to each other then the work done by the force is said to be zero.

shriyanshu1130: examples of for that
aniket271003: suppose a book is kept on a table and u apply a force on it towards the left direction. Then the force applied and the displacement of the book are in the same direction, thus work done is positive
aniket271003: when you are applying force on the book frictional force also acts on it, now force and displacement are in opposite direction thus work done by frictional force is zero
aniket271003: suppose a coolie has lifted a load on his head and starts walking. in this case the displacement is in the forward direction and the weight of the load acts downward, thus they r perpendicular to each other, thus work done by the weight of the body is zero
shriyanshu1130: thank you
aniket271003: middle waale me work done negative hoga sorry bhai
shriyanshu1130: it ok
