Answer:

At a very young age Mother Teresa felt she was called to spread the love of Jesus Christ.

After a few months’ training in Dublin she was sent to India. From 1931 to 1948 Mother Teresa taught at St. Mary’s High School in Calcutta.

Seeing the suffering and poverty she left the convent school and devote herself to working among the poorest of the poor in the slums of Calcutta. She devoted her time to the blind, the aged and the disabled and a leper colony. She started an open-air school for slum children. Soon she was joined by voluntary helpers, and people from across the world supported her financialy.

With the approval of the Pope her Missionaries of Charity spread all over the world. They provide help to the poorest of the poor in a number of countries in Asia and Africa. In North America, Europe and Australia they take care of the alcoholics, the homeless, and the AIDS sufferers.

By the 1990s there were over one million Co-Workers in more than 40 countries.

She received the Pope John XXIII Peace Prize in 1971 and the Nehru Prize for promotion of international peace and understanding in 1972.

Nun and missionary Mother Teresa was so unconcerned about her own life that she never read anything written about her. Many books recorded her birthdate wrongly as 27 August 1910.

In 1979, Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize for her humanitarian work. She died in September 1997 and was beatified in October 2003.

She was canonized on September 4, 2016, and hence known as Saint Teresa of Calcutta.
