The fertilizers (no matter what kind) are soluble in water... sand is not. So, pour the mixture into water and then filter off the dissolved portion and then cause the water to evaporate.

The method used to separate sand from fertilizers is filtration.

Explanation:

The substance such as sand is insoluble in water. On the other hand, fertilizers are soluble in water. In order to separate the sand from fertilizer, add water to the mixture and stir it nicely. Take a funnel and place it on the beaker.

Then place a small filter paper in the funnel and add the mixture. When we pour the mixture in the set up, as water is not soluble in water it remains in the filter paper, whereas the fertilizers being soluble in water flows through the filter paper as filtrate. When the filtrate is heated it the fertilizer is obtained.
