( i ) Ray of light

A straightline path along which the transfer of light energy takes place is called a ray of light . It is represented by a straight line with arrow marked on it . The arrow shows the direction of ray .

( ii ) Incident ray

The light ray coming towards the reflecting surface is called incident ray . In the figure , AO is incident ray .

( iii ) Point of incidence

It is the point at which incident ray strike the reflecting surface ( MM ) . In the figure the point 0 is called point of | incidence .

( iv ) Reflected ray

The light ray going back after reflection is called reflected ray . In the figure , OC is relfected ray .

( v ) Normal

The perpendicular on the point of incidence is called normal . In the figure ON is normal .

( vi ) Angle of Incidence

The angle between the | incident ray and normal is called angle of incidence . In the figure , angle AON is angle of incidence , represented by i .

( vii ) Angle of reflection

The angle between normal and reflected ray is called anjle of reflection . In the figure angle NOC is angle of reflection represented by r .
