The UNESCO was established in the year 1945 with the belief that economic and political policies are not enough to bring about peace in the world.

It is known as the 'intellectual' agency of the UN.It is believes that the world should unite and collaborate in the fields of education,science and culture as moral and intellectual solidarity are a prerequisite to world peace.

Objectives-

1)Contribute to the building of a culture of peace.

2)Eradication of poverty.

3)Sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education.

Functions in the field of education-

1)Increasing equity and access.

2)Insuring that education develops knowledge and skills in are such as sustainable development,knowledge about HIV and AIDS,human rights,gender equality,etc.
