some leaves of tree may get detached from a tree, if we vigorously shake its branch due to inertia of rest. Leaves are in the state of rest with respect to the tree so they possess inertia of rest
When the branch is suddenly set in motion, the leaves attached to it tend to continue in their state of rest, on account of inertia of rest. This generates a lot of strain at the junction of leaves and the branch. Due to this strain, some leaves get detached from the branch.

Initially both the tree & the leaves hanging to its branches are in a state of rest.
When the branches of the tree are shaken, it is set into motion while the leaves remain in the state of rest due to inertia of rest.
Thus, the leaves get detached from the branches & fall down due to the pull of gravity.
