Our constitution forbids the imposition of religious taxes. Let us understand in detail:

India is a democratic country. In order to establish this fact and to strengthen this purpose, the constitution prevents the imposition of religious taxes. The right to freedom of religion is a fundamental right in our country.

In 1948, while discussion on the draft constitution was going on, it was mentioned that during old times kings used to impose taxes in order to support a special religion. But, this was discarded and as per article 27 of the constitution of India, imposition of religious taxes is prohibited.
