Answer:When the branch is suddenly set in motion, the leaves attached to it tend to continue in their state of rest, on account of inertia of rest. This generates a lot of strain at the junction of leaves and the branch. Due to this strain, some leaves get detached from the branch.

The cause of this phenomenon can be explained using Newton's first law of motion.Initially, the leaves and tree both are at rest .But when the trees is shaken vigorously, the tree moves while leaves tend to be at rest. Since they remain at rest some of the leaves may get detached from a tree if we vigorously shake its branches.✔✔
