Jamshedpur: To provide a livelihood to migrant workers, who returned to East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts, the respective administrations are making efforts to create jobs according to their skills and experience. The two districts have received around 14,000 migrants, most of whom have been rendered jobless due to the lockdown. East Singhbhhum DC Ravi Shankar Shukla said 8,645 migrants returned to the district, of whom, 1,622 are skilled while 1,486 are semi-skilled and 5,390 are unskilled. He added, “Over 10,000 migrant workers, who were employed at tiles manufacturing industries in Morbi district of Rajasthan, returned to Kolhan division recently. We can take advantage of their work experience and establish tiles manufacturing units here.”
The DC noted that the ball has been set rolling as far as dialogues with entrepreneurs and industrialists are concerned on exploring opportunities to absorb the migrants in local SMEs. “Government agencies like drinking water and sanitation, road construction, building construction and rural engineering departments have also been brought on board to explore opportunities to provide jobs to the migrants,” Shukla said.
Meanwhile, Seraikela-Kharsawan DC Anjaneyulu Dodde held two meetings with owners of Tata Motors’ ancillary units and industry representatives of Adityapur in the past two weeks. He said, “Providing jobs to migrants is a moral responsibility and we all have to work in coordination to see that those who arrived home from other districts of the state and different parts of the country get respectable works to sustain.”
