He was born on 2nd May 1921 and died on 23rd April 1992.He was an Indian Filmmaker ,screenwriter,music composer, graphic artist, lyricist and author widely regarded as one of the greatest filmaker of the 20th cetury.He was born in Calcutta into a bengali family which was prominent in the field of arts and literature.Starting his carrier as acommercial artist,Ray was drawn into independent filmaking after meeting french filmaker Jean Renoir and viewing Vittorio De Sica's Italian neorealist film Bicycle Thieves during a visitto london.
