Ok, first let me discuss about the desert. Desert is dry and moisture less situation characterized by lack of rainfall, full of sands and extreme dry weather. After a couple of dry years, desertification process starts. you may be astonished to think about that, most of the deserts are located at the west corner worldwide. There are a simple reason behind that incident. That also works on Thar Desert also.

before we start, we should know well about the planetary wind system. simply, this means regular winds that blows continuously from a specific direction to another specific direction. Most importantly, this winds are permanent. The wind blows from high pressure to low pressure. For simplification I am taking just equatorial zone. There from two high pressure zone wind blows to low pressure zone.(refer enclosed figure).

Here surface wind is called trade wind, in northern hemisphere, it called northeastern trend, and in southern hemisphere it called southeastern wind. As equatorial zone has high temperature, this wind got emerged(shown in red arrow lines), and comes to just opposite direction as a upper windand due to lower temperature and higher density, it got submerged to both high pressures zone and then it comes as surface wind(trend winds). This looks like a cycle, isnt it? that called Hadley cell (for equatorial zone).
