some people believe that students should be given a large amount of homework so that they can learn independently .other disagree and thing that they should me engage in social activities rather then School work at home ​

it depends on the student. what make him more knowledgeable ..both academic as well as social knowledge are important in order to live a happy and successful life..but we must not be hard on students ..they are still in thier learning age.. giving them pressure and effect thier confidence and mental health a student should learn happily and willingly..
