It is just a chance event whichever trait carrying sperm will reach to the ovum of female first and fertilised it

During fertilization or sexual reproduction the woman gives only one chromosome which is X chromosome. But male has two chromosomes which are X chromosome and Y chromosome.

When Y chromosome comes from man the resultant child is Boy(XY) and when X chromosome comes from man the resultant child is Girl(XX).
