Some people think that in order to solve traffic and transportation problems people should be encouraged to live in cities rather than in suburbs or in the countryside.
To what extent do you agree or disagree? (Reported 2017, Academic Test)

Let us discuss the scenario in two different circumstances as follows:

(a) The need for migration of people from suburban or countryside to the cities

(b) Traffic congestion within the city due to over crowd

Both are related to each other as the first one is the cause for the second case.

In the first case, the main reason for the migration is

  1. The employment options available.
  2. The income earned in cities compared to the other areas.
  3. Comfortable living

The second scenario is heavy traffic during the day which really annoys people traveling longer distances. This is due to over crowd of population from different parts of the country. For example, people in Bengaluru are not only from Karnataka state but also from different parts of the world. This is because of the employment options, income to lead lives better. If unemployment in different areas is taken as a top priority in the country, need for migration will be reduced, which in turn reduces the heavy traffic.
