BECAUSE THE XYLEM AND PHLOEM IS A MERISTEM called vascular cambium . This tissue divides off cells that will become additional xylem and phloem .... because this growth ruptures the epidermis of the stem , woody plants also have corkcambium that develops along the phloem .
