Global warming:-

Global warming looms large over humanity. According to the EPA, worldwide greenhouse gas emissions attributed to human activities increased twenty six percent from 1990 to 2005. The rise in carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere accounts for approximately eighty percent of this increase. Often debated, the effects of global warming on the planet and the human population are frightening and mostly self-inflicted.

Power Plants

Forty percent of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions stem from electricity production. Ninety-three percent of the electric industry emissions result from burning coal. According to the EPA coal-fired power plants, municipal and medical waste incineration account for two-thirds of U.S. mercury emissions

Transportation

EPA reports state that thirty-three percent of U.S. emissions come from the transportation of people and goods.

Farming

Industrial farming and ranching releases huge levels of methane and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Farming contributes forty percent of the methane and twenty percent of the carbon dioxide to worldwide emissions.

Deforestation

Deforestation to use wood for building materials, paper and fuel increases global warming in two ways -- the release of carbon dioxide during the deforestation process and the reduction in the amount of carbon dioxide that forests can capture.

What is Biosphere?

The biosphere is made up of the parts of Earth where life exists—all ecosystems. The biosphere extends from the deepest root systems of trees, to the dark environments of ocean trenches, to lush rain forests, high mountaintops, and transition zones like this one, where ocean and terrestrial ecosystems meet.

Parts of the lithosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere make up the biosphere.

★━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━★

What is Lithosphere?

A lithosphere is the rigid, outermost shell of a terrestrial-type planet or natural satellite. On Earth, it is composed of the crust and the portion of the upper mantle that behaves elastically on time scales of thousands of years or greater.

What is Hydrosphere?

A hydrosphere is the total amount of water on a planet. A planet's hydrosphere can be liquid, vapor, or ice. On Earth, liquid water exists on the surface in the form of oceans, lakes and rivers. It also exists below ground—as groundwater, in wells and aquifers.

What is Atmosphere?

An atmosphere is a layer or a set of layers of gases surrounding a planet or other material body, that is held in place by the gravity of that body. An atmosphere is more likely to be retained if the gravity it is subject to is high and the temperature of the atmosphere is low.

Layers of Atmosphere :

  • Troposphere (lowest)
  • Stratosphere
  • Mesosphere
  • Thermosphere
  • Ionosphere( contains charged particles and communication is possible due to this feature)
  • Exosphere (highest)

Ecosphere. The living part of the Biosphere

An ecosphere is a planetary closed ecological system. In this global ecosystem, the various forms of energy and matter that constitute a given planet interact on a continual basis. The forces of the four Fundamental interactions cause the various forms of matter to settle into identifiable layers.

Biosphere Reserves

Biosphere Reserves is an international designation by UNESCO for representative parts of Natural and cultural landscapes extending over large area of terrestrial or coastal/marine ecosystems or a combination thereof.

The Indian government has established 15 Biosphere Reserves of India, which protects larger areas of natural habitat and often Include one or more National Parks or preserve, of Buffer Zones that are open to some economic issues.

Protection is granted not only to flaura and fauna of the protected region, but also to human communities who inhabit this region and their way of lives.
