Burning fossil fuels – gas, coal, oil and more recently shale gas – are considered the most economic ways to generate electricity. Fossil fuel however, is a finite resource, the cost of which increases sharply as the availability decreases. They become more difficult to mine as reserves are diluted.

Fossil fuels are the major source of energy and are widely used for all daily-life purposes. But the over-use of these resources might lead to many social and health problems.

• The combustion of fossil fuels emits a lot of toxic gas which is in appropriate for living conditions. These toxic gases are released in the air, causing air pollution.

• This is not only degrading for the environment but also for health. Regular consumption of such toxic gases might cause serious respiratory problems and other life-threatening diseases.

• Fossil fuels are non-renewable source of energy which means that they cannot be made available within a few months or years or even decades.

The formation of fossil fuels takes hundreds of years but due to global warming and high consumption the fossil fuels are also depleting fast.
