Some proteins are positively charged while some proteins are negatively charged. What determines the charge of the proteins.

In the common case when the surface charge determining ions are H+/OH- , the net surface is affected by the PH of the liquid in which the solid is submerged . Amino acids that makeup proteins maybe positive , negative , neutral or polar in nature and together gives a protein it's overall charge .
