Ten electric lamps each 40W are connected in parallel across 220V mains and are kept lighted for 100hours, (a) Compute the number of unit consumed, (b) Find the maximum current in the live wire.

SOLUTION:-(a)Total power consumed=40×10W=0.4 kilowatt for 100 hours

Energy consumed=0.4W×100 hr = 40kWh

(b) Current drawn by each bulb

I=P/V=40/220=2/11A

Maximum line current =10×2/11=1.82A
