According to me we are not supposed to take this phrase literally . It may mean that our world may end when either human's heart turns into ice or either when Earth is totally ' on fire ' due to the problems we humans are causing to nature . According to me , nature is the most powerful element our Earth can ever have and we humans , just delude ourselves that we have control over the whole world when actually we don't . What I mean when I say that our world may end when mankind's heart changes into ice is that - our world may end when humans no longer have any kindness , empathy , sympathy , care or love left for anyone but ourselves . According to me it is most likely that our world is going to end due to ice ( not in nature , but in the hearts of mankind ) , finally putting a full stop to all the atrocities being done by humans . As we all can see , it is very clear that our nature has always tried to destroy whatever has started causing extreme harm to our Earth . Be it Dinosaurs , sabbath tooth tigers , titanoboa or any other creature . Hence according to my opinion there is a greater chance of our world ending ( by our world I mean that of the mankind ) due to ice .
