some seats are been reserved for backward classes in the parliament. is it Democratic and non democratic or not show

This is democratic as the govt is helping the backward classes to participate in an election and hence is promoting the basic principle of equality..But in my opinion, reserving seats for the backward classes isn't democratic,as the meritorious people are left behind with no seats,accompanied by a large amount of reservations..
