Some seeds like soap nuts have very hard shell? why?

Seeds like soap nuts have harder shells because when these seeds are present in a condition which are unfavorable; the shells grow harder to protect them from such inconvenience.

When it comes to the favorable condition such as water and soil, it helps them to grow under proper nutrient.
