Subject: Miserable condition of the senior citizens
Dear Sir:
I am writing this letter to express my deep concern over the plight of the elderly people in our country. They have to face lots of difficulties almost everywhere. At home they are not treated well by their own sons and daughter-in-laws. Some heartless sons and daughter-in-laws force them to stay at old age homes. According to reliable data, there has been 69 % increase in the residents of old-age homes in the last four years. There is a family in our where the old parents are treated so inhumanely. Now they are planning to shift them to an old age home.
At this age they need extra care. Since they are old, they can’t earn livelihood. The money earned by them is spent on the education and marriages of their children as a result of which their financial condition is not good.
Through the medium of your newspaper I appeal to concerned authorities and common people to take care of the elderly. Strict action should be taken against sons and daughter-in-laws who don’t look after their aged parents well.
Thanking you.
Yours truly,
Harsha

Letter to the editor of a national daily to extend my concern about leaving senior citizens in old age homes by their children following a neglect to look after them.

Sir,
I am Harsha living in Delhi for more than 20 years. I am a student of IIT. Recently, I met a senior citizen traveling alone in that age that quite won't cooperate traveling in a MTC bus. I question him, why he was in such a dangerous mission by his own; won't he be searched by his children if something happened to him on such kind of travel? He said, Son, I am living in a old age home and doing some small jobs to keep himself alive for few more years. He was neglected by his son and daughter who were working in government positions.
I was stunned to hear his story. Of course, there are many senior citizens like him neglected by their beloved children. I though won't these kind of actions never come under crime? Because, this is a kind of crime.
Now, I request you to take a deeper probe in this kind of cases and suggest a solution to the government as this want to be curbed from our society.
Thank You.
