An element is the simplest form of matter. It is not possible to break it down with any chemical means. Elements are the building blocks with which all matter is made on Earth. It is a substance which is made from one type of atom.

In other words, an element is a substance which cannot be interconverted chemically or broken down into a simpler substance. It is the primary constituent of matter.  Examples of elements are - Hydrogen, Oxygen, Carbon, Chlorine, and Lithium.
