a. soft water is the water which doesn't contain chloride, sulphate and bicarbonate salts of magnesium and calcium.

b.temporary hardness of water is caused due to the dissolvement of bicarbonate salts of magnesium and calcium. it is removed by boiling water or treating it with lime water

c.the substances which cause permanent hardness of water are chloride and sulphate of magnesium and calcium.
